It smells quite neutral, doesn't offend with the scent. The application is more difficult than other cream pomades, it has quite a bit of tug to the hair, but after that, its really good, hair style keeps itself in place for hours, and adjustments to the hair can easily be done to the hair throughout the day. Washing out is easy too. Would rate it full stars if it was easier to apply.
I have purchased this product 4 times now and its my go to product. A great natural product that holds for about 8 -10 hours and hair is able to be restyled. I love using a natural product as it washes out with water.
If you get the O-douds pre-style product it works well and can give you texture. I use this with a sea salt spray and have no issues with getting a good textured style.
Compared to other Matte Pastes I've used, this one is definitely one of the worst imo.
When you scoop the product out of the jar it feels like a nice applying matte paste, but the moment you emulsify it between your hands, it gets extremely dry and sticky. This makes it an extremely hard and uncomfortable process to apply in the hair.
As for the hold, it's got none for me. The hold disappears within 30-60 minutes and can't be restyled easily, my hair just flops down soon after application. The texture isn't the worst but it certainly isn't the best, it's a somewhat coarse texture, but nothing outstanding.
The scent certainly isn't horrible, but it's definitely not great, it smells woody, almost like a timber yard with sawdust smell. Washing the product out is hard and will require shampoo to get it all out, however I find that most products do. Even then, this product is certainly harder to wash out.
O'Douds Matte Paste is an overhyped product imo, I bought it after reading reviews and expecting great things, but there are so many better Matte Pastes out there on the market, I would not recommend this at all.
